WH-5G-MM8X4 Tube-to-Base Retention Solution
The WH-5G-MM8X4 is a 5G/4G, 4×4 MIMO omnidirectional antenna designed for wide-area wireless coverage. According to the product page, it supports frequency bands from 700 to 4800 MHz, provides four antenna paths, and has a stated gain of 6/8/8 dBi across its listed bands. Its 360-degree horizontal coverage and IP67 protection suit outdoor infrastructure and maritime communication applications, including seaport and offshore environments. WHWireless product page
The listed mechanical data specify a 90 mm diameter, 1150 mm antenna body, a 1.5 kg weight, and stainless-steel 304 brackets for pole installation on 30–50 mm poles outdoors.
Customer feedback reports that, during vessel operation, the antenna tube may loosen or detach from its aluminum base. Movement and vibration at sea can repeatedly load this interface, so the proposed improvement strengthens the connection while preserving the antenna’s overall form and intended pole-mounted installation. The image shows the antenna assembly alongside a top-view illustration of the circular base. The drawing is schematic and communicates the proposed fastener count and spacing; it is not a manufacturing drawing or a verified hole pattern.
The first change is to increase the tube-to-base fastening points from four to eight M3 screws. In the illustration, the eight positions are distributed around the circular base to provide a more even clamping arrangement around the interface. The second change is to increase screw length from M3 × 6 mm to M3 × 10 mm. The longer screws are intended to provide greater thread engagement, helping the joint resist loosening under vibration. Both changes work together: additional fastening locations distribute restraint around the circumference, while the longer screws increase engagement at each fastening point.
Before production, engineering should confirm that the circular base has enough material and clearance for eight holes, that their positions avoid internal components and cable paths, and that M3 × 10 mm screws provide suitable engagement without bottoming out or interfering with the antenna internals. Screw material, locking method, tightening torque, corrosion protection, and any effects on the IP67 seal should also be reviewed. The revised assembly should then be inspected and tested under representative vibration and vessel operating conditions. This proposal is intended to improve mechanical retention; performance should be confirmed by validation.
